Slow Food, Le Marche & The Osterie d’Italia Guide
At Fritto Misto Comune, food is at the centre of everything we do, like where it comes from, who makes it, and how it’s shared….and the story.
Before there was Fritto Misto Comune, there was a friendship built at the University of Gastronomic Sciences (aka Hogwarts of food) in Pollenzo, the university founded by the Slow Food movement. It’s where we met, studied, cooked, and talked endlessly about food.
We came from different corners of the food world… a farmer and producer, a food photographer and stylist, and a collector and cook (of sorts)….. but with one thing in common: a belief that food has the power to connect people and shape communities.
That Slow Food mindset of seasonality, respect, and responsibility stuck with us. It’s guided everything since, from how we intend to grow things in our orto, to how we cook for friends, and even how we design our guest stays.
But, back to what this is really about…..
The Slow Food Guide to Osterie d’Italia
Every year, Slow Food Italia publishes the Osterie d’Italia guide, its list of restaurants and osterie across the country that reflect the movement’s values. It’s not about fine dining or fancy service; it’s about places that do things properly: seasonal ingredients, local producers, honest cooking, and proper hospitality.
This year, the Le Marche edition features ten restaurants, which already tells you a lot about the region’s quiet excellence. And one of them just happens to be in Fabriano and hands down our favourite place to eat: Osteria San Biagio.
Lucia, Riccardo, and their team do everything with care and integrity. The menu is seasonal, the wine list thoughtful, and the hospitality genuine. It’s the kind of place where Sunday lunch turns into late afternoon, and you leave already thinking about when you’ll come back.
Why It Matters
For us, the Osterie d’Italia guide isn’t just a list of good restaurants, it’s a reminder of why we do what we do. The people featured in it are the ones keeping food culture alive, supporting small producers, and cooking with honesty.
It’s also what we’re trying to do here at Fritto Misto Comune: build something rooted in place and community. From our small garden to our growing ideas around sustainability and slow living, it’s all part of the same bigger picture…..piano piano.
We’ll be sharing more soon…. from what’s growing in the orto to local producers we love and how we’re learning to live (and host) a little slower.
We are happy and proud to share the Slow Food Le Marche list. It’s a perfect way to discover this region one meal at a time, share the love…..and maybe understand why we love it here so much.
You can download the Osterie d’Italia app to keep the full list handy while travelling (it’s in English)… but better still, if you would like to work on your Italian….. go old school and buy the paper copy.
When you’re done with it, pass it on to a friend visiting Italy.
That’s how good food and good places keep travelling!
